“Microsoft Veteran Pavan Davuluri, with 23 Years Experience, Key in Collaborations with Qualcomm and AMD for Surface Processors”
An IIT Madras alumnus, Pavan Davuluri was named Microsoft Windows and Surface’s new chief, becoming the latest Indian to assume a leadership position at a Big Tech business, following in the footsteps of Microsoft’s Satya Nadella and Google’s Sundar Pichai.
Longtime product chief Panos Panay, who left the department last year to join Amazon, is replaced by Mr. Davuluri. Mikhail Parakhin was the head of the Windows division, while Mr. Davuluri was in charge of the Surface group earlier. He has taken over the Surface and Windows departments following the resignations of Mr. Panay and Mr. Parakhin.
We are bringing together the Windows Experiences and Windows + Devices teams as a fundamental component of the Experiences + Devices (E+D) division as part of this transition. This will allow us to design silicon, systems, experiences, and gadgets for this AI age across Windows client and cloud in an integrated manner. This team will be led by Pavan Davuluri, who will still answer to me. Pavan will receive direct reports from Jeff Johnson and Shilpa Ranganathan, along with their teams. Regarding AI, silicon, and experiences, the Windows team and the Microsoft AI team will continue to collaborate closely,” he declared.
During the course of his more than 23 years with Microsoft, Mr. Davuluri has contributed to the company’s efforts with Qualcomm and AMD to develop Surface processors.
“We are very pleased to work with this team to support Microsoft AI in realizing its ambitious goal of creating cutting-edge consumer AI products. And as we expand the scope of our E+D goods and services to include our AI technologies, including Copilot, I very much look forward to working closely with Mustafa and the team,” the memo stated.
The news of the reorganization was made a few days after Mustafa Suleyman, the former CEO of Inflection AI and co-founder of Google DeepMind, joined Microsoft to lead its newly established AI unit.
