Along with chief minister MK Stalin, previous chief ministers O Panneerselvam and Edappadi K Palaniswami, and other political figures, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi cast his ballot at a nearby polling place. Both Stalin and Ravi urged people to fully engage in democracy and carry out their civic duties.
Stalin cast ballots in the same location as his wife Durga Stalin, DMK leader Kanimozhi (who is running in Thoothukudi), and BJP leaders L Murugan (who is running in Nilgiris) and Tamilisai Soundararajan (who is running in South Chennai)
In 102 parliamentary constituencies spread over 21 states and Union Territories, the seven-phase polling process got underway at 7 am and ran till 6 pm.
Political factions at odds
The BJP, the opposition AIADMK, and the ruling DMK will compete in Tamil Nadu’s legislative elections. Under the leadership of current Chief Minister M K Stalin, the DMK won 38 out of 39 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, securing a resounding victory.
Today, 950 candidates will be decided by around 6.23 crore voters in Tamil Nadu who will cast their ballots at roughly 68,000 voting places.
